Computer Science

Requirements for the Preliminary stage and the department : (136 Units).

The vision of the Computer Science Department is to be abreast of scientific and technological advancements and capable of preparing distinguished national cadres in the field of computer science at a global classification level through : 1. Providing a full opportunity for students to interact with their professors. 2. Teaching students topics and curricula that are in line with global classification standards. 3. Not awarding a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree until all departmental requirements of the prescribed educational curricula are met. 4. Teaching students the following amount of vocabulary or its equivalent in educational experience, which includes the foundations of algorithms, data structures, software design, programming language concepts, computer architecture and organization, artificial intelligence concepts, the fundamentals of computer networks and the internet, principles of computer security, databases, and image processing. 5. Providing laboratories, computer networks, classrooms, and office spaces for the purpose of completing the educational curriculum. 6. Providing qualified teaching staff specialized in all branches of computer science and holding the highest degrees.

After graduation, the student should be able to : 1. Applying mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems. 2. Designing and developing software systems. 3. Implementing and designing computer networks. 4. Designing and implementing websites. 5. Working efficiently in computer centers within government and private sector entities and being qualified to complete postgraduate studies inside and outside the country. 6. Continuously developing for the purpose of evaluating the objectives and outcomes of the educational curriculum and to complete a documented development process according to the evaluation results. 7. Encouraging scientific research and research creativity. Department objectives : 1. Adopting the concept of quality assurance that examines and evaluates the quality of educational curricula in the field of computer science. 2. Graduating highly qualified national professionals in computer science, in addition to preparing advanced and specialized cadres in postgraduate Master of Science in Computer Science programs. 3.Meeting the needs of Libyan society for highly qualified national professionals in the field of computer science. 4.Studying the needs of the job market in the field of computers and new software and working towards their implementation. 5.Preparing graduates to pursue postgraduate studies in computer science. 6.Collaborating with all computer science departments in Libya and abroad to develop the scientific education process within the department. 7.Participating in seminars, conferences, and workshops in the field of computer science inside and outside Libya. 8.Achieving a leading role in education and scientific research. 9.Contributing to providing academic consultations and developing services in the field of computer science for the city of Derna in particular and Libya in general.

High school diploma with a minimum GPA of 75%, passing the personal interview, passing written tests if any, submitting all required documents within specified deadlines.
