Parasitology

The Department of Parasitology is one of the core departments within the Faculty of Medicine, specializing in the study of parasites and disease vectors that affect humans.

The vision of the Department of Medical Parasitology is to enhance understanding of human parasites, including their morphology, life cycle, modes of transmission, the diseases they cause, associated symptoms, diagnostic methods, treatment options, and strategies for their control and prevention. This is achieved by integrating the latest technologies and scientific research to prepare well-qualified and competent physicians in the field of parasitology.

• To prepare and graduate distinguished medical professionals with high competence and professional capabilities in the field of parasitology through teaching and learning methods aligned with international standards, while fostering students’ communication and interpersonal skills. • To contribute to enriching scientific research related to community health, communication, and health education.

• To graduate physicians with high competence in diagnosing parasites, parasitic diseases, and their vectors. • To introduce students to various types of parasites worldwide, including endemic parasites in Libya and neighboring countries. • To identify parasites and diagnostic methods for the diseases they cause, while acquiring epidemiological knowledge that aids in the prevention and eradication of prevalent parasitic diseases. • To conduct field research related to pathogenic parasites and provide practical environmental solutions. • To collaborate with international universities, research centers, and medical institutions in the field of scientific research. • To offer training courses that enhance the professional skills of healthcare workers, aiming to improve community health and control parasitic diseases.

High school diploma with a minimum GPA of 75%, passing the personal interview, passing written tests if any, submitting all required documents within specified deadlines.
