Sociology

The Sociology Department is one of the departments within the Faculty of Arts at Derna University. It began accepting students upon its establishment in (1999-2000 AD) as a division within the Behavioral Sciences Department. At its inception, the university was named Derna University, and the academic year system was adopted until the academic year 2022-2023 AD, when it transitioned to the semester system, which is the current system in the faculty. Students study for eight semesters, after which they obtain a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. The department has graduated (21 cohorts), with a total of 674 graduates (194 males and 490 females).

Excellence in the fields of social research, aiming to achieve a society free from problems and destructive social phenomena.

Graduating scientifically specialized competencies capable of performing their work with high professionalism, possessing a knowledge base and field research experiences that enable them to study social phenomena and problems, understand social reality, and contribute responsibly to the development, enrichment, and enhancement of scientific research according to quality standards.

1. Preparing specialized cadres of researchers in various branches of sociology. 2. Preparing specialized cadres holding Bachelor's and higher degrees (Master's) in Sociology. 3. Preparing graduates who have the ability to understand the issues and problems of Libyan society from a sociological perspective. 4. Increasing students' social awareness and developing their constructive critical thinking. 5. Qualifying students to use the scientific method in studying social problems and phenomena and providing them with the necessary information and skills for this purpose. 6. Contributing to the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of sociology in line with the development of science, and providing consultations and conducting research and studies for public and private institutions and organizations in society. 7. Developing scientific knowledge by encouraging outstanding students to pursue postgraduate studies. 8. Achieving a better understanding of the nature of social life and the problems, dilemmas, and social phenomena that appear in it from time to time.

High school diploma with a minimum GPA of 75%, passing the personal interview, passing written tests if any, submitting all required documents within specified deadlines.
