About the Department

The Department of Arabic Language is one of the earliest departments in the faculty and was the first building block for its establishment. It was opened in the academic year 1996-1997 AD, when the university was named Omar Al-Mukhtar University. It followed the annual system until 2022, when it was replaced by the semester system. Students study (137) credit hours distributed over eight academic semesters, after which they are awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Arabic Language and Literature. The number of graduating classes until the academic year 2023-2024 AD is (25 classes), with approximately (554) graduates since its opening: 129 males and 497 females. The department currently includes approximately (110) students (until 2019, the number of students was 578).
