About the Department

The Philosophy Department is considered a distinguished model and specialization in the field of science and knowledge. The graduate of this department is committed to the enlightened ethical thought of individuals in society across various fields, contributes to the development of awareness and perception, and cultivates taste among all. This is achieved through their philosophical ideas that align with their reality and express their culture, civilization, and social, political, and ethical issues.
The department was established in (2007 – 2008), when the university was named Omar Al-Mukhtar University. Ten cohorts have graduated from the department, totaling 26 students (3 males and 23 females).

Goals

1. Teaching subjects that are relevant to the specialization and serve the issues and orientations... f society, and cooperating with specialists in other university faculties to develop academic courses in a way that serves the philosophy of society. 2. Studying the history of human thought across different eras, attempting to evaluate it, and understanding its contributions to humanity, and benefiting from this in the progress of our society. In addition to that, studying different intellectual currents, both ancient, modern, and contemporary, comparing, critiquing, and enriching them. 3. Focusing on deep thinking and contemplation, through human reflection on themselves and the duties entrusted to them in society. 4. Working to acquire methods and approaches for defending freedom of thought, respecting the opinions of others, tolerance, exposing deception and uncritical loyalty, responding to those with prejudiced and narrow-minded ideas, and striving to expand human understanding and move away from tribal, sectarian, and doctrinal fanaticism. 5. Enlightening students about different intellectual currents and forming positive attitudes towards society by training them to use a comprehensive perspective in analyzing life's topics. Read more
