The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1991. Since its inception, the department has contributed to the preparation of technical and academic cadres to meet the labor market's demands for engineers who have proven their competence and worthiness in the positions and tasks assigned to them. Currently, more than 75% of faculty members are graduates of the Department of Civil Engineering. In addition, most of the department's staff and technical personnel are natives of this institution. Furthermore, the Civil Engineering Department has played a prominent and pioneering role in keeping pace with the region's urban renaissance, contributing to the preparation of numerous engineering studies, consultations, and engineering tests related to monitoring the construction phases of numerous development projects in the region. The department works to provide and support the community with qualified engineering cadres to serve the research movement on the one hand and advance society on the other hand.
A Brief Overview of the Department of Electrical Engineering The Department of Electrical Engineering awards a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with specializations in Communications and Power.
In the 2000-2001 the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Derna was established and continues to provide a platform for students to display their strengths and develop their engineering skills. Our emphasis is on ensuring that students are well-prepared for a stimulating learning environment that blends theoretical knowledge with contemporary practical experiences
Based on the development of higher education and the community’s need for specialists in the fields of engineering and technical professions, as well as in pursuit of enhancing the outputs of this great academic institution represented by the prestigious University of Derna, the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering was established pursuant to the Ministry of Higher Education’s decision No. 146 of 2017, following the diligent efforts of Dr. Yasser Al-Farjani Al-Dali, Coordinator of the College of Engineering – Derna. The Bachelor's program in Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Derna offers a distinguished blend of core courses from Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, along with a rich selection of elective courses that prepare students for future careers or graduate studies in the fields of renewable energy engineering. The program promotes interaction between faculty members and students and fosters an excellent academic environment for teaching and learning.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering aims to graduate qualified technical professionals in the fields of mechanics and industrial technology, enhancing the level of university education in engineering disciplines to align with regional and global standards. This will be achieved through the development of curricula, libraries, and laboratories, as well as the provision and training of teaching staff, alongside expanding specializations within the department to cover all aspects and branches of mechanical engineering.
