Goals
1. To prepare a teaching faculty capable of managing the integrated curriculum and committed to the... principle that the student is the central focus of the educational process, while also keeping pace with developments in teaching methods.
2. As one of the largest clinical departments, surgery includes several sub-specialties such as general surgery, orthopedic surgery and trauma, pediatric surgery, urology, ENT, burns and plastic surgery, anesthesia, and intensive care. Therefore, it is essential to distinguish the academic, service, and research outputs of the core and sub-specialties.
3. To ensure deep learning among students by raising their awareness of the importance of curricular integration, and recognizing that each unit complements and supports the others. The department also seeks to adopt clinical skills sessions, small group discussions, case-based learning, and distance learning.
4. To prepare a generation of physicians with self-confidence and strong scientific and practical knowledge that qualifies them to assume their responsibilities and manage surgical cases professionally. This is achieved by simulating various clinical conditions using validated clinical scenarios.
5. To develop interactive teaching skills through student presentations and scientific poster sessions.
6. To encourage students and interns to actively participate in patient care, particularly in emergency surgical cases, supported by simulations that replicate real-life incidents.
7. To closely supervise and monitor the professional and behavioral development of interns during their mandatory training period in the department, by implementing a practical and research training plan that matches the level of professional and ethical responsibility they will undertake in the future.
