About the Department

The Department of Family and Community Medicine teaches the Family and Community Medicine course to fourth-year medical students. It is considered one of the clinical departments in the college, focusing on a comprehensive study of public health, preventive medicine, and social medicine.
The department’s educational program includes theoretical lectures, discussion sessions, and practical training through field visits to primary healthcare centers and clinics. The department also teaches the basics of biostatistics, epidemiological studies, demography, occupational and environmental health, nutrition, family health, and the prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Additionally, the department trains internship students and continuously seeks to improve the quality of scientific research by encouraging students to participate in conducting studies and scientific research on disease prevalence and prevention methods. These efforts aim to address health and behavioral problems and promote community health. The department also contributes to organizing preventive and educational seminars and lectures that serve the community and environment, in alignment with its core values of respect, integrity, and professionalism.

Goals

• Introduce students to concepts of nutrition, reproductive health, and elderly health, encouraging... g them to adopt a healthy lifestyle and positive behaviors to become role models for the individuals, families, and communities they will serve in the future. • Introduce health indicators and statistical principles for survey-based studies. • Prepare physicians capable of implementing preventive measures and controlling common infectious diseases at the individual, family, and community levels within the framework of primary healthcare, with awareness of emerging diseases and their management. • Equip physicians with the ability to anticipate and respond to community health needs within the context of primary healthcare, and to apply fundamental public health sciences to develop public health programs and improve health promotion. • Graduate professionals who apply acquired knowledge and skills, are capable of leadership in motivating the communities they serve, and foster teamwork and collaboration. • Introduce students to the basics of public health and the commonly used terminology in the field.
